about
I wrote this song a few years ago as a challenge (to myself) to write a love song. I haven't written too many of those in my writing career. At the time of writing this, I thought it was about time to try my hand at another.
I used Dolly Parton's indelible and timeless song, "I Will Always Love You" as a jumping off point.
(Sometimes I wonder where I get the nerve. Seriously.)
I hope you enjoy the cheekiness of this track. It's likely the only time I've used the word "therefore" in a song lyric. And likely the only time I ever will. There's something funny about that word finding its way into a lyric. (Maybe I'm just easily entertained.)
This track is free, though you may choose to buy it (and for whatever amount you choose).
Purchasing my music is HUGELY appreciated
and helps me to hire collaborators, like Peter Hendrickson (the fantastic drummer this track features).
And it helps me hire mix and master engineers.
Thank you so much for listening and supporting independent music. It's been a path that has been the furthest thing from easy. Though it has been worth it.
Wishing you all things wonderful.
Love,
Carrie
lyrics
Sometimes the silence gets so thick
I wonder if we're gonna move through it
Then there are days when we can't seem to say
Enough sweet nothings
Women are from Venus and men are from Mars
Our perspectives are respective from our place in the stars
Once in awhile, we see eye to eye on the same side of the sun
And then I know that
I will always love you
But loving you ain't always easy
They say: as time goes on, the passion fades
Fleeting flashes of red in subdued shades
Our love has been a changing palette anyway
And, therefore, never outdated
And doesn't it seem as the years go by
Our flame burns brighter, we don't have to try
'Til not trying gets terrifying and we realize some work is required
To keep the fire alive
I will always love you
Though loving you ain't always easy
I know you'll always love me too
And, Lord knows, that ain't easy
And we drive each other crazy
'Cause this loving thing
Ain't always easy
